Posted: 26 Jun 2011 01:44 PM PDT Master baker of Carlo’s City Hall Bake Shop in Hoboken, New Jersey, Buddy is the cake boss. The establishment in the heart of Hoboken was opened by Carlo Guastaffero in 1910, then acquired by Buddy Valastro’s father, Bartolo Valastro Sr., in 1963. After the elder Valastro died in 1994, Buddy, his mother and four sisters kept the bakery running. Buddy grew up in Hoboken in an old-fashioned Italian family and showed a flair for cake decorating at an early age. Today, he supervises a team that includes his mother, four older sisters and three brothers-in-law. Cake Boss is, also, an American reality television series, airing on the cable television network TLC. In this series they are the main characters. And when you’re working with family on a daily basis, there is bound to be a lot of drama. The Valastros know drama but at the end of the day they also know love. The popularity of the show has resulted in increased business for Carlo’s Bake Shop, and increased tourism to the Hoboken area.
